Outlook’s Annual Discussion Dinner, with guests Prof. Kerin O’Dea and Julian Burnside QC, certainly caused a lot of talk. Better than ever, the ADD was a hotbed of debate, held at the Kent Hotel on the 27th of October. First, Prof. O’Dea’s gave her passionate opinions on nutrition in rural and remote areas, and reminded us all not to ignore the health benefits of the traditional Indigenous lifestyle and diet. Later, Julian Burnside gave a blistering assessment of asylum seeker policy in this country, highlighting the many hypocritical aspects, sharing his own solutions, and giving insight into the metal illness caused by prolonged detention.
Prior to the ADD, our Annual General Meeting was also held, at which the 2014 Outlook Committee was democratically elected. Together, the 70 students and two special guests shared a delicious 3 course meal and many hours of intense discussion. It was a fantastic way to reflect on the year that has been, and to look forward to the year ahead. Many thanks to Prof. Kerin O’Dea and Julian Burnside for their time, and to everyone who spiritedly joined in.
